GOSPEL
Jesus Visits His Friends
After Jesus came back to life, He visited His friends, the disciples, who were hiding because they were afraid. The doors were locked, but Jesus suddenly appeared!
Jesus Brings Peace
Jesus said, “Peace be with you.” His friends were happy to see Him! Jesus showed them His hands and side with the marks from the cross, so they would believe it was really Him.
Jesus Gives the Holy Spirit
Jesus breathed on His friends and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” This Spirit would give them the power to share God’s love and forgiveness with others.
Jesus’ Special Friend, Thomas
One of Jesus’ friends, Thomas, was not there that day. When the others told him they saw Jesus, he didn’t believe it. Thomas said he needed to see and touch Jesus’ marks to believe.
Jesus Shows Thomas the Truth
Later, Jesus came again and asked Thomas to touch His marks. Thomas believed and said, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said that people who believe without seeing are blessed.
Jesus Does Many Miracles
Jesus did so many wonderful things that were not written down, but we can read and learn from the stories that were. These stories help us believe in Jesus, love Him, and have life in His name. to his friends and proves that he has defeated death and returned to life.
Prayer Table
Symbols
GOSPEL
To create a prayer table with symbols that resonate with the themes in John 20:19-31, consider incorporating the following items:
- Dove – The dove symbolizes peace, purity, and the Holy Spirit. In John 20:19-31, Jesus appears to his disciples and shares a message of peace, saying, “Peace be with you.” The dove serves as a reminder of the peace that Jesus brings and the presence of the Holy Spirit, which he promises to send to them.
- Key – The key symbolizes the authority given to the disciples by Jesus. In this passage, Jesus breathes on the disciples and says, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.” This represents the power of the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven, given to Peter and the apostles, symbolizing their authority to guide the Church.
- Lamb – The lamb symbolizes Jesus Christ, the “Lamb of God,” who sacrificed himself for humanity’s redemption. In this reading, Jesus shows his disciples his wounds, emphasizing his sacrifice on the cross and his role as the Lamb who takes away the sins of the world.
- Empty Tomb – The empty tomb represents Jesus’ resurrection and victory over death. In the context of John 20:19-31, the disciples are witnesses to the risen Christ, who overcame death, giving hope to all believers.
These symbols help children connect with the powerful message of Jesus’ resurrection and the transformative hope it brings to our lives. Encourage children to explore and discuss the symbols, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Easter story.

RENNA MUSIC (5:40) – Instructions for hand motions that go with “Divine Mercy Chaplet (Original Version)” from the new CD “Kids Sing Divine Mercy” by The Rennas

KID TALK—Hi friends, my name is Ana, and today I’m going to tell you about a special day called Divine Mercy Sunday. I love this day because it reminds us how much Jesus loves us and how He always wants to forgive us.
Divine Mercy Sunday happens one week after Easter, and we celebrate it this year on April 27th. On this day, we think about Jesus’ amazing love for all of us. You know, sometimes we make mistakes, or we’re not always kind to others, but Jesus wants us to know that He understands, and He is always ready to forgive us.

Carlo Acutis is soon to be made a saint of the Catholic Church, but who is he and how can he inspire us? We share the Gospel for the second Sunday of Easter and reflect on how Carlo had wonderful faith in Jesus, even though he had not seen him. We learn about Carlo’s devotion to the Eucharist, pray together and sing the hymn ‘I Could Sing of Your Love Forever.’

The Risen Jesus appeared to his friends on the evening of Easter Sunday, but one of them wasn’t there, Thomas. Thomas struggled to believe that Jesus was alive and Jesus taught him something important. Greg helps us know that Jesus is also speaking to us through his words to Thomas. As always, we then join Jesus in prayer. Afterwards, we sing ‘I Could Sing of Your Love Forever’ with Angel.

n this bible message for kids and families, meet Thomas, the doubting disciple. See if Thomas believes some amazing animal facts and find out how Thomas went from doubting Jesus to making a great statement of belief! Scripture from John 20. Belief can be strengthened through personal experience, as demonstrated by Thomas’s journey from doubt to faith upon witnessing the resurrected Jesus.

Faith in Jesus requires personal experience and evidence, and while doubts are natural, belief can be strengthened through community, prayer, and scripture.

The story of Jesus’ resurrection inspires both faith and creative ways to share the gospel, as individuals navigate doubts and challenges while supporting one another in their beliefs.

Activities
Choose one of the following OUR SUNDAY VISITOR activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings:
Second Sunday of Easter
Jesus’ first words to his apostles were “Peace be with you.” After each evening meal or before you go to bed, have family members extend the sign of peace to each other.
On top of a sheet of paper write, “I believe in Jesus because…” Ask each family member to write down his or her response. As a family, talk about how you will show your belief in Jesus this week.
Jesus sends us out in faith to share the good news with others. Review the Corporal Works of Mercy listed below. Then choose one that the family can do together this week. Feed the hungry. Give drink to the thirsty. Clothe the naked. Visit the imprisoned. Shelter the homeless. Visit the sick. Bury the dead.
Talk about people who put their faith in Jesus into action in the world. Explain to your family that a person may be criticized and put down for doing good. Make a family effort this week to recognize the good actions of members of the family. Support and praise each other instead of putting each other down.

ID Please!
Sermons 4 Kids
OBJECTS: Driver’s license or other photo ID card
Does anyone ever ask you for identification? It happens to me all the time. When I go into a store to buy something and I want to pay for it with a check, the cashier takes my check and then asks, “May I see your driver’s license please?” Why does the cashier need to see my driver’s license? The answer is quite simple. The cashier wants to see if I match the picture on the driver’s license. Am I really who I claim to be?
There may be other times when you will be asked for identification. You may need a picture ID to get a library card. You might even need a picture ID to sign up for youth soccer. Many schools are now requiring students and teachers to wear a picture ID at school. Almost every day we are asked to prove that we are who we say we are.
On the Sunday that Jesus rose from the grave, he appeared to a group of his disciples. One of the disciples, whose name was Thomas, was not with them. When the disciples told Thomas that they had seen Jesus and that he was alive, Thomas said, “I won’t believe it until I see it with my own eyes. I want to see the nail-prints in his hands and put my hand in the place where the spear was thrust into his side.”

Doubting Thomas
Sermon Writer
OBJECTS: None
Do you know what people today call Thomas? He was one of Jesus’ disciples but today people call him “Doubting Thomas.” On the first Easter day, the day God made Jesus alive again, the disciples got to see Jesus and talk with him. But Thomas had not been there that day. So when Thomas came back to the other disciples, they told him, “Jesus is alive again! We saw him.” How do you think the disciples said that? Did they have slow, sad voices: [use a slow, draggy voice]“Jesus is alive again. We saw him”? How do you think they sounded when they told Thomas? Who can say “Jesus is alive again. We saw him” like the disciples might have sounded. [let as many children as would like to demonstrate with excited voices].

What We Cannot See
Sermon Writer
OBJECTS: A Fragrant Rose
Can you think of things you can’t see, but you know them to be true? The first thing that may come to mind is the wind. We can’t see the wind, but we believe the wind is real because we can see it rustle through the grass, move the leaves on trees, and feel the breeze on our cheeks.
Think about the fragrance of a rose. That is something we cannot see, but when we put our nose into the flower and sniff we are certainly aware that the wonderful scent is real.
How about love? You can’t actually see love; you can only see the results of love. Think about the people who love you and what comes from their love. Your mom and dad care for you everyday and provide what you need so that you will be happy and safe. Love feels like a very real thing, doesn’t it, even though we can’t see it?
