• "This weekend is a special day called All Souls Day. Do you know what that is?"

• "It's a special day where we remember and pray for our loved ones who have died. That could be a grandma or grandpa, a friend, or even a special pet."

2. Talk About Sadness (The "Holy Water" Tears)

• "When we think about someone who has died, it can sometimes make us feel sad. And that is 100% okay.
• "In the homily, Big Al felt sad about his friend Timmy. It's okay to still be sad, even a long time after."
• "Fr. Joe says something beautiful about being sad. He says our tears are like 'holy water'! Why? Because they come from LOVE. Crying just means you love that person so much. Even Jesus cried when his friend Lazarus died."

3. Talk About Heaven (Where are they?)

• "When Big Al was sad, Fr. Joe asked him, 'Where is Timmy now?' And Big Al said, 'With God.'"
• "That's what we believe! We believe that when people die, their souls go to be with God in a place of perfect love. And we pray for them, to help them get closer and closer to God's big, loving arms."

4. Talk About Memory (Keeping them in our Hearts)

• "Even though we can't see them or talk to them like we used to, we have a superpower that keeps them with us. It's called memory!"
• "We keep the 'best of them alive in our hearts forever.' What's a happy or fun memory you have of [Person's Name]?"
• (Share a simple, happy memory of your own first).

5. The "Big Idea": A Hug from God

• "At the end, Big Al has a wonderful idea for all of us."
• "He says that when you miss someone you love so much, and it makes you feel sad, you can do something."

Activities to Bring the Lesson Home

1. "Send a Hug" Prayer (The Main Activity)

• Have the children sit quietly.
• "Let's try Big Al's idea. Close your eyes. Think of someone you love who is now with God."
• "Now, in your heart, let's all ask God together: 'Dear God, please give [Person's Name] a great big hug from me. Tell them I love them! Amen.'"

2. Create a "Memory Jar"

• Materials: A clear jar, slips of paper, crayons/markers.
• Activity: Decorate the jar and label it "Our Memory Jar." As a family or class, share happy memories of loved ones. Write or draw each memory on a slip of paper and place it in the jar. On All Souls Day (or any day you're feeling sad), you can pull one out and read it.

3. Draw a "Memory Picture"

• Materials: Paper, crayons/markers.
• Activity: Ask the children to draw a picture of a happy time they remember with their loved one. Or, they can draw a picture of that person "with God," perhaps in a beautiful garden or surrounded by light.

4. Light a Candle

• Materials: A small candle (real or battery-operated for safety).
• Activity: Light the candle and say a simple prayer: "This light is for [Person's Name]. We love you, we remember you, and we pray for you. We know you are with God."

Closing Prayer

Dear God, Thank you for loving us. Thank you for all the people you have given us to love. Today, we pray for our friends and family who are now with you in heaven. Please keep them safe in your loving arms.

When we feel sad, please remind us that our tears just mean we love them. Help us to keep them alive in our hearts with happy memories. And please, God, find [Person's Name] right now and give them a great big hug for us. Amen.
