KID TALK

It is with regret that we must announce the discontinuation of KID TALK with Ana. After careful consideration, we have come to the difficult decision to bring this program to a close.
While we understand that this news may be disappointing to those who have enjoyed the content provided by KID TALK, we must also acknowledge the importance of managing our resources effectively. Unfortunately, the audience engagement we experienced did not align with the time and effort invested in producing this show.
If you found KID TALK useful, and rather not have it discontinued, share your feedback in comment section below. Let us know what you liked and how we might improve it.
Prayer Table
Symbols
Here are five prayer symbols with explanations and descriptions suitable for Catholic children’s Liturgy of the Word, specifically for the readings Acts 12:1-11, 2 Timothy 4:6-8, 17-18, and Matthew 16:13-19.
- Anchor: Representing Peter’s role as the “rock” upon which the Church is built (Matthew 16:18), an anchor symbolizes hope and steadfastness in faith.
- Keys: Symbolizing the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven that Jesus gave to Peter (Matthew 16:19), keys represent authority, trust, and guidance in God’s service.
- Ship: This symbol is connected to Acts 12:1-11, where Peter was miraculously released from prison. It reminds us of the Church as a vessel carrying God’s people, emphasizing God’s protection and guidance.
- Torch: Reflecting Paul’s proclamation in 2 Timothy 4:7 about finishing the race and keeping the faith, a torch symbolizes the light of faith and the guidance of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
- Open Book: Representing the Word of God, an open book symbolizes the importance of Scripture and the teachings of the apostles, reminding us to remain rooted in the faith as seen in all three readings.

Saints Peter and Paul
Children’s Lectionary
THE MARK 10 MISSION — Saints Peter and Paul are two wonderful saints and we are celebrating them today. We hear in the Gospel how Jesus asks his friends a question and Peter gives a great answer. Greg helps us understand that both Saints Peter and Paul didn’t just know who Jesus was in their heads, they knew it in their hearts. We then invite Jesus into our hearts when we pray and sing ‘Follow Me’ with Sr Chiara.

Teachable Liturgical Action
Ask the children to write a prayer asking St Peter or St Paul for a special intention, e.g. St Peter, please pray for my Mum that she will get better soon. Encourage them to pray this prayer every night for the coming week.

TIPS FOR CATHOLIC CATECHISTS
IMPORTANT: YouTube has many videos from various Christian backgrounds. Although some are not suitable for Catholic catechesis, others can enrich children’s spiritual journey when used thoughtfully. Click on the banner below each video to view tips to help these videos more align with Catholic teachings. It’s crucial to review each video and consult the Catechism before sharing with children.
Ministry to Children (5:54)
Who is Jesus?

This video provides a simple and engaging explanation of Christ’s identity, tailored to a young audience. From a Catholic perspective, the video is largely consistent with Christian teachings and offers a positive message about faith in Jesus as the Messiah. However, there are notable theological and catechetical points that a Catholic teacher should consider clarifying or supplementing before presenting it in a Catholic classroom. Below are key observations and references to the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC):
Superbook (28:17)
Peter’s Escape

From a Catholic perspective, this episode of Superbook includes themes and messages that are generally in alignment with Christian values and principles, such as the power of prayer, faith in God during persecution, and trust in divine providence. However, there are several areas where Catholic teachers should take note and provide clarifications to ensure alignment with Catholic teaching, especially when using this resource for catechesis or instruction in a Catholic context.
Teaching Kids About Jesus (3:02)
Peter in Jail

This short animated video, titled ‘Peter in Jail,’ presents a simplified retelling of Acts 12:1–17, focusing on the miraculous escape of Peter from prison. It conveys important basic Christian themes such as persecution, prayer, divine intervention, and the role of angels. However, from a Catholic perspective, there are certain theological nuances and areas of catechetical importance that a Catholic teacher should be aware of and be prepared to address or supplement. Below is an evaluation and comparison to Catholic teaching using the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC):
James Hein (3:00)
God’s Prize for Us

This children’s message, based on 2 Timothy 4:6–8, 16–18, gives an accessible and uplifting explanation of St. Paul’s final reflection on his life and faith journey. It contains sound Christian principles and presents spiritual truths in a way children can understand. However, there are several important points and distinctions a Catholic teacher should be aware of before using this video in a Catholic classroom.

Activities
Choose one of the following OUR SUNDAY VISITOR activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings:
Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul
- In order to love someone, we need to really get to know that person. And getting to know someone takes time. Invite family members to share about a person they really know well and love. Then discuss how we can really get to know Jesus.
- Talk about how if we really know and love Jesus, we live as his followers. Invite family members to share how they show they are followers of Jesus by their actions.
- Peter remained faithful even in difficult times. Talk about how your family remains faithful even when life is difficult. Or talk about a person you know who has remained faithful to God even when life has been difficult.
- Discuss the following question: Who do you say that Jesus is?

Who is this Man?
OBJECTS: Opening Theme of “The Lone Ranger” and photo of the Lone Ranger and Tonto
One of my favorite television programs when I was a child was “The Lone Ranger.” Every week I turned on the television, my heart pounding with excitement as I listened to the opening theme. It went like this. (Play the opening theme.) As you may know, the Lone Ranger wore a mask, (show photo) and with his faithful friend Tonto by his side, he went around helping people and fighting evil and injustice. Almost every week the show ended the same way. After the Lone Ranger had saved someone from the bad guys, he rode off into the sunset on his horse, Silver, saying, “Hi Yo, Silver!” Then someone would always ask the question, “Who was that masked man?”
When Jesus lived on earth, he went around helping people too. He fed the hungry, healed the sick, made the blind to see and the lame to walk. After Jesus healed someone, it was not unusual to hear someone in the crowd ask, “Who is this man?” Jesus heard people asking that question and he also heard the answers that people gave.
One day Jesus asked his disciples, “Who do people say that I am?”

Do You Know Me?
OBJECTS: Photos of people or story characters the children might recognize.
How do you recognize someone? It seems like a simple question doesn’t it? You use your eyes and you see a face that is familiar. You recognize your mom, your dad, brothers, sisters, friends, grandparents, teachers, and many other people as well.
(Show series of photos.)
Sometimes you can recognize someone without first seeing them. You may smell a special perfume or a person you know may carry the scent of pine trees or cookies, giving you a clue as to who is nearby.
You may have a family member or friend who whistles or sings. Then you can use your ears to know that someone familiar is near. There are different ways of identifying who someone is.
When Jesus was with his disciples he asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” (16:15).

The Good Fight
OBJECTS: None
Usually when we think of the word “fight” we think of it in a bad way, don’t we? We think of kids hitting one another or adults yelling at each other.
We learn in the Bible to be peaceful, to forgive those who hurt us, and to avoid hurting others.
The apostle, Paul had a difficult life. Part of his difficulties came about because he made bad choices, but later Paul accepted God’s love and made good changes. As a Christian he travelled a lot, telling others about God’s love and because of that he was thrown in jail and held as a prisoner. Even then he wrote letters to other Christians encouraging them to continue living and working as good people – telling others about God’s love.
Paul’s life was difficult and he struggled. Toward the end of his life he said, “I have fought the good fight. I have finished the course. I have kept the faith” (4:7).
He speaks about a “good fight.” Another way to think about this word, “fight” is to think of it as a struggle. When you believe in something very strongly you may need to struggle to uphold that belief. What you believe about God is your faith.
