KID TALK

It is with regret that we must announce the discontinuation of KID TALK with Ana. After careful consideration, we have come to the difficult decision to bring this program to a close.
While we understand that this news may be disappointing to those who have enjoyed the content provided by KID TALK, we must also acknowledge the importance of managing our resources effectively. Unfortunately, the audience engagement we experienced did not align with the time and effort invested in producing this show.
If you found KID TALK useful, and rather not have it discontinued, share your feedback in comment section below. Let us know what you liked and how we might improve it.

Symbols
- Bread and Wine (1 Corinthians 11:23-26) – Represent the Eucharist and remind us of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. During the Last Supper, Jesus shared bread and wine with his disciples, transforming them into his body and blood. Children can connect with this symbol by thinking about the sharing and love that happens when they have meals with their families.
- Basket with Fishes and Loaves (Luke 9:11b-17) – Represents the miracle of Jesus feeding the five thousand with just a few fish and loaves of bread. This symbol teaches children that God provides for our needs and can make great things happen even from small beginnings.
- Table (Genesis 14:18-20) – A table is a symbol of fellowship and sharing, like the meal shared by Abraham and Melchizedek. Children can think about times they’ve sat around a table with family and friends, sharing stories and love, just like in this passage.
- Crown and Scepter (Psalm 110:1, 2, 3, 4) – These symbols represent the royalty and authority of Jesus as our King. Children can imagine wearing a crown and holding a scepter, reminding them that Jesus is their King who loves and guides them.
- A Heart – This symbol represents love, compassion, and the grace of God in our lives. For children, a heart can remind them of the love that Jesus showed when he multiplied the food to feed the hungry crowd and how they, too, can share that love with others.

Mark 10 Mission | Archive | Mission File (PDF)
THE MARK 10 MISSION — We meet Jesus as he speaks in front of a great crowd but there is a problem, they need something to eat. His disciples bring him five loaves and two fish and Jesus works a wonderful miracle. Greg helps us reflect upon the Gospel for the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. We then gather with Jesus to pray and listen to Angel as she sings “This is My Body”.

TIPS FOR CATHOLIC CATECHISTS
IMPORTANT: YouTube has many videos from various Christian backgrounds. Although some are not suitable for Catholic catechesis, others can enrich children’s spiritual journey when used thoughtfully. Click on the banner below each video to view tips to help these videos more align with Catholic teachings. It’s crucial to review each video and consult the Catechism before sharing with children.
Superbook (2:54)
Jesus Feeds Five Thousand

From a Catholic perspective, the video presents the familiar Gospel story of the multiplication of the loaves and fishes (John 6:1–14) in a modern, imaginative, and humorous way through animated characters. While the core message — Jesus performing the miracle of feeding the multitude through the generous offering of the boy — is retained and consistent with Catholic teaching, a Catholic teacher should note and be aware of some significant aspects before showing the video in class.
Ministry to Children (7:50)
Feeding 5,000

From a Catholic perspective, the video primarily provides a well-intentioned and accurate retelling of the miracle of the multiplication of loaves and fishes (cf. John 6:1-14, Mark 6:30-44, Matthew 14:13-21, Luke 9:10-17). However, there are some key differences and nuances a Catholic teacher should be aware of before using this video in a classroom setting, especially in a catechetical or religious education context.
Kids on the Move (4:05)
Jesus Feeds the 5000

This video provides a dramatized and simplified explanation of the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves and fishes from John 6. It also introduces the concept of Jesus as the Bread of Life, which is a very important teaching in Catholic theology. From a Catholic perspective, the video is well-intentioned and could serve as a useful teaching tool for younger audiences, but there are several key points a Catholic teacher should be aware of before using this video in a classroom.
Crossroad Kid’s Club (5:24)
Storytellers: Jesus Feeds 5000

This video retells the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves and fishes in a lively and engaging manner that children can understand. However, from a Catholic perspective, a teacher should be aware of several theological omissions and slight inaccuracies that should be addressed before showing it in a classroom. Here are the key points of evaluation, with relevant references to the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC):

Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ
The Eucharist is the center and heart of Catholic Christian life. Make a loaf of bread for the evening meal. Light a candle and say a blessing for the family. Have each member pull off a piece of the loaf as a reminder that we are one in unity with each other.
Get out the pictures of your First Eucharist as well as photos from the First Eucharist of all the members of your family. Recall stories about that day and what various family members remember most.
Involve family members in preparing a meal for guests. Prepare special signs of hospitality and care. Talk about ways the family can show hospitality in the way you greet guests and care for their needs.
Make a meal together as a family and bring it to a homeless shelter or soup kitchen. Share Jesus’ love and care by serving the meal.

Ministry to Children (14:29) – These simple crafts celebrate the story of Jesus feeding a huge crowd with just a few loaves and fish. Use what you have (just like in the story!) to make a “basket case” and a “fishy friend.” Get creative and have fun!

The Kids’ Bulletins are a resource for Catholic kids who would like to have some fun while learning about the readings from the Sunday Mass every week. (Ordinary Form) They are made by a mom in Canada who is happy to share them with anyone who can use them to help learn or teach about the truth and beauty of the Faith.

What to Do with the Leftovers
OBJECTS: Some bowls or other containers used to store leftovers.

Do you see all of these bowls? At my house, we use these to store leftovers in the refrigerator. Do you ever have leftovers at your house? We often cook more food than we can eat at one meal, so we have leftovers again the next night, and the next, and maybe even the next. I must confess, I sometimes get tired of leftovers before they are all gone.
We once had a neighbor who told me, “My family will not eat leftovers. If we have any food left over, I just have to throw it out.” What a waste! I remember one time they cooked some steaks on the grill. When they had finished their dinner, my neighbor came over to our house and said, “We had this steak left over and since my family won’t eat leftovers, I thought you might like to have it for your dog.”
“Oh yes, I’m sure my dog would love to have it,” I answered. Well, guess what I had for dinner the next night. That’s right, I had steak! There is nothing wrong with leftover steak!

All You Need
OBJECTS: None

I wanted to talk this week about a mistake I make. Maybe it’s a mistake you make too?
You see, I love to read. One of my favorite things to do is go to bookstores. And when I go – whether it’s a big bookstore or a small one – I always seem to find something I feel like I need to buy. Sometimes I find two or three things!
The problem is as much as I love to read, I also have a lot to do. I have a busy job and on the weekends I like to go out do fun things with my family – and the truth is I don’t really get to read all that much.
So what do you think happens to all those books? That’s right. All around our house are big piles and shelves full of books that – while I wanted them – maybe I didn’t really need.
Maybe you do the same thing? It might not be with books, but whether it’s toys or books or shoes or food…we probably all sometimes make the mistake of thinking we just don’t have quite enough, when actually we probably do.
In today’s Gospel story the disciples have a problem. A huge crowd has gathered to hear Jesus and as they look around they notice that they don’t have enough food to feed them all. In fact for the crowd of five thousand people they have only five loaves of bread and two fish!

Jesus Feeds the People
OBJECTS: Package of fish-shaped crackers. Pepperidge Farms makes one called Goldfish, but any fish-shaped cracker will do.

(Begin to nibble on your snack. You might say, “Umm, this is really good.” When the children ask about the snack, you might say, “Oh, you want one, too?” Hold up a package of the small fish-shaped crackers. Then explain that after today’s sermon there will be some for each. )
Wherever Jesus went, people followed him. They wanted him to help sick people feel better. They wanted to hear what he had to say. One time Jesus went to a quiet place where there were no stores, or restaurants. There were no houses in that place either. The Holy Bible calls it a “deserted place.” (v. 13)
When the people heard where he was, they followed him. They had walked a long time to reach him. Jesus taught them, and he healed those that were sick.
When evening came, Jesus’ disciples wanted to send everyone away, so they could walk back to town and buy food for themselves.
