KID TALK

It is with regret that we must announce the discontinuation of KID TALK with Ana. After careful consideration, we have come to the difficult decision to bring this program to a close.
While we understand that this news may be disappointing to those who have enjoyed the content provided by KID TALK, we must also acknowledge the importance of managing our resources effectively. Unfortunately, the audience engagement we experienced did not align with the time and effort invested in producing this show.
If you found KID TALK useful, and rather not have it discontinued, share your feedback in comment section below. Let us know what you liked and how we might improve it.

Symbols
- Book: The book symbolizes wisdom, as referred to in the first reading from Proverbs. It can be used to explain to children that wisdom comes from God and has been present since the beginning of creation.
Explanation: Wisdom, represented by a book, is an essential aspect of understanding and living according to God’s will. - Heart: The heart symbolizes the love and peace that come from the Holy Spirit, as mentioned in the second reading from Romans. It illustrates how the Holy Spirit helps us to love others, even in difficult times.
Explanation: The heart represents the love that God has for us and that we should have for others, as well as the peace we experience when we trust in God. - Dove: The dove is a symbol of the Holy Spirit, as mentioned in the Gospel reading from John. It represents the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives, guiding and teaching us.
Explanation: The dove symbolizes the Holy Spirit’s role in leading us to the truth and reminding us of Jesus’ teachings. - Cross: The cross symbolizes the sacrifice that Jesus made for our salvation, as referenced in all three readings. It reminds children of the love and mercy that God has shown us through Jesus’ death and resurrection.
Explanation: The cross is a powerful symbol of the central event in Christian history and serves as a reminder of the ultimate expression of God’s love for humanity.

THE MARK 10 MISSION (13:08) — God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit are the Holy Trinity. We are celebrating the Holy Trinity and discovering more about them together. Greg helps us to know and love the Trinity more.
We meet them in our hearts as we pray and then sing Sign Your Cross with Sr Chiara.

TIPS FOR CATHOLIC CATECHISTS
IMPORTANT: YouTube has many videos from various Christian backgrounds. Although some are not suitable for Catholic catechesis, others can enrich children’s spiritual journey when used thoughtfully. Click on the banner below each video to view tips to help these videos more align with Catholic teachings. It’s crucial to review each video and consult the Catechism before sharing with children.
Superbook (5:12)
Trinity

The Superbook Show’s video on the Trinity aims to help children understand the complex doctrine of the Blessed Trinity in a fun and approachable way. While it acknowledges the mystery of the Trinity and the limitations of similes, the presentation contains several theological inaccuracies that Catholic teachers should correct before or after showing the video. Below is an evaluation from a Catholic perspective, with references to the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC).
Ministry to Children (5:49)
What is the Trinity

From a Catholic perspective, the video attempts to explain the doctrine of the Trinity in a friendly and accessible way for children. While this is commendable, there are several areas where a Catholic teacher should be cautious before presenting this video to a class. The doctrine of the Trinity is a central mystery of the Christian faith, and improper analogies or explanations can easily lead to confusion or the inadvertent teaching of heretical ideas. Below are some key issues and differences a Catholic teacher should note, citing the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) when appropriate:

Activities
Choose one of the following OUR SUNDAY VISITOR activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings:
Plan a family picnic or other outing to celebrate Trinity Sunday. The time together should help the family develop a feeling of love and security within your family. Such a time enables children to experience a glimpse of the love relationship as expressed in the Trinity.
As a family, take time to play a game that all enjoy. Talk about what you like about playing together. How does playing together help to bring the family closer?
Gather together as a family and have each person tell one thing that they love most about the family. Provide each family member with a sheet of paper and pencil. Give the following instructions: Write down one thing you can do this week to show your family that you love them as God loves them.
Teach the youngest members of the family to make the Sign of the Cross with the name of the Trinity. Before the evening meal, as a family pray a prayer in honor of the Trinity, such as: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

Our Spiritual GPS
OBJECTS: A GPS and a map
How many of you know what a GPS is? GPS stands for Global Positioning System. Many of us have a GPS in our car. If you have a smartphone, you may have a GPS application on it. When you want to go somewhere, you put the address of the place where you would like to go into your GPS, and it will give you turn-by- turn directions and put a picture on the screen showing you how to get there. Isn’t that amazing? How does it do that? Well, first of all, the GPS device must have a map of the area where you are located installed. Then it connects to satellites orbiting the earth and the satellites send back information to the GPS which shows the directions on the screen.
That is amazing, but wait, there is even more. The GPS will help you find your way — even if you get lost. If you make a wrong turn, the GPS will adjust the directions to get you back on the right track. It tells you how fast you are going, how far it is to your destination, and what time you will arrive!

Staying Close
OBJECTS: Locket or a picture of a locket, optional. (Pictures often found in catalogs or newspaper circular ads.) If neither object is readily available, the same concept can be presented by asking if there is a grandparent in the congregation who has a picture of a grandchild in their wallet and is willing to share it.
Imagine traveling at a time when there were no airplanes, no cars, no trains. That is how it was many years ago. People walked or traveled by horseback. They also rode in wagons and carts pulled by oxen, horses or mules.
Traveling was so difficult that when people decided to go on a long journey, they didn’t know if they would ever see their friends and family again. Saying goodbye was often a sad time and also a bit scary. To help them remember and feel close to the people they were leaving, women sometimes wore lockets.
Lockets are usually heart-shaped and hinged so they can be opened. Women put pictures of their loved ones inside the locket and if a picture was not available, they would put some of that person’s hair inside. They wore these lockets on a chain around their neck or pinned to their dress. It was a way of keeping their loved one close to their heart when they were separated by a great distance.
Any time we embark on a new adventure or make a change in our lives, we can feel a bit frightened because we don’t know what might happen. Do you remember how you felt your first day of school? It can feel exciting and scary at the same time. Some kids like to carry a picture of their mom or dad in their pocket on the first day of school so they won’t feel so alone. Sometimes, when we are separated from someone we love, we need something to make us feel more comfortable.

To Guide You
OBJECTS: ruler, stick of gum or jelly bean
Unless you live in Australia you have probably only seen a kangaroo in a zoo. Or maybe you have read “Winnie the Pooh” and have met Kanga and little Roo. (Show picture if you have one.)
When a kangaroo is born it is only 1/2 to 1 inch long. (Show length on ruler.) It weighs less than a stick of gum or a jelly bean. (Show those objects.)
This tiny, newly born kangaroo, which is called a joey, has no hair and is blind. Can you imagine how helpless it would be?
After the joey is born the mother licks a pathway on her fur to help the baby find the pouch. The tiny kangaroo follows the path and once inside the pouch, is safe and warm. It has everything it needs, including milk, which is squirted into its mouth. The baby has been guided, into the pouch by its mother.

I really miss the section where Ana talks, it was such a big help when preparing my children’s liturgy. I hope they reconsider and bring that section back
Stay tuned. I am working on making this happen. It may take a couple of weeks, though. If other people want Ana to return please post a comment to let me know what you like (e.g. podcast, multiple choice questions, etc.”? —Fr. Don
Bring back Catholic Kids Media! My kids and I would watch the Catholic Kids Media video every Sunday before mass. The illustrations and explanation would keep my kiddos attention and helped us all have a better understanding of the Sunday readings.
I am happy to announce that Catholic Kids Media is back! I truly appreciate your support and am grateful for the role THE WORD THIS WEEK website has played in helping your children connect with the Sunday readings. Moving forward, you can expect to find the current video at the top of our page each week after it is posted on YouTube.
