Activities
Choose one of the following OUR SUNDAY VISITOR activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings:
- By our Baptism, we are called to share with others the love of Jesus and his good news. How can you share Jesus’ love and message with others this week?
- Plan an evening family retreat at your house. Include prayer, Scripture readings and a family activity. For an action, discuss ways that each family member will show love for God, neighbor and him or herself during the coming week.
- As a family think of the people who bring the good news to you. Decide how you can thank them, how you will listen to the message they have for you, and how you can help them spread their message.
- Add to your meal and bedtime prayers this week, an extra prayer for missionaries who are spreading Jesus’ love and message throughout the world.

It All Depends on Jesus
OBJECTS: Clothes, Hair products, Some comfortable shoes – for when I have to walk, Sandals – in case I go to the beach, Swimsuit – for the beach or the hotel swimming pool, Camera – for sightseeing trips, A book – in case I get bored, Money to spend

Can you think of any other things I may have forgotten? I want to make sure I have everything I might need on the trip. What kinds of things do you pack to take on a vacation? (Pause for responses.) Sometimes we pack so much to take on vacation, it feels like we’re not really “getting away from it all” — we’re taking it all with us!
The Bible tells us that Jesus appointed 72 of His followers and sent them out, two-by-two, to go into every town and place where He was about to go. Do you know what Jesus told them to take with them? (Pause for response.) Nothing!
Jesus said to them, “Go!” Then He went on to say, “Do not even take a purse, or a bag, or a pair of sandals.”
Why would Jesus tell them to leave everything behind? I think it’s because none of that stuff could help them share the good news the way only Jesus could.

Who Do You Represent?
OBJECTS:Any type of uniform or a picture of a sports team.

Can you think of people who wear uniforms? Baseball players? Soccer players? Policemen? Firemen? Pastors? Priests? Health care workers?
Do you know why certain people wear uniforms? One reason is that when people wear a uniform, especially athletes, we are able to tell which team they represent. When we watch a soccer game or a basketball game, we are able to tell one team from the other. Athletes wear uniforms with symbols and colors that represent not only their team, but their school. Each team member has been selected and given authority to represent their team and their school.
Another reason people wear uniforms is for protection. In the case of firemen, their uniforms are designed to protect them when they fight fires. Football players wear helmets, mouth guards and protective padding to protect them from being injured during a game. Health care workers use gloves and masks to protect themselves and their patients from infections.

I’ve only discovered this wonderful and gem of a resource the past year. We have used some and/or combination of the videos, reflections and discussion for the children. I’m saddened that in the last few weeks, some of the resources I use frequently like Kids Talk have been discontinued. Today there seem to be less posted resources. I’m worried that it’s dwindling away 🙁
Thank you for your comment. It is greatly appreciated. There are several things happening. I the summer, there are fewer resources as many religious ed programs go on summer break. As far as Kid Talk, it had become too costly to produce. Furthermore, after Lent, the number of visitors to the children section dropped from around 400 a week to about 150. Part of this may be because it is summer. I do take comments seriously, though. So if there appears to be continued support for the children’s section, I will consider spending more time on it. It’s just that other sections of the website are averaging around 1,000 visitors a week, so this is where I need to be spending the majority of my time. I hope this helps. Please spread the word about this website. —Fr. Don.
