Activities
Choose one of the following OUR SUNDAY VISITOR activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings:
- Talk with your family about being a good neighbor. Discuss ways in which your family can welcome Jesus into your home through the presence of a neighbor or stranger.
- Read together as a family the Gospel reading from this Sunday, Luke 10:25-37. Discuss the following: Who are the most feared or misunderstood members of your community? Do you consider them to be your neighbors?
- As a family, plan how you can be Good Samaritans and reach out to someone in need. Discuss who in your family, school or neighborhood needs to be shown compassion and kindness this week.
- Together as a family, make cut-out cookies in the shape of hearts and have everyone help decorate them. Share a plate of cookies with a neighbor.

A Neighbor’s a Neighbor!
OBJECTS: “Horton Hears a Who!” by Dr. Seuss
Do you like to read? I am a great fan of Dr. Seuss. I love his books. Of all the wonderful characters Dr. Seuss has created, my very favorite is Horton the Elephant. Horton is such a kind and compassionate character. I think we all could learn a lot from Horton.
The book I have today is called “Horton Hears a Who!” At the beginning of the story, Horton was splashing around in a cool jungle pool when he heard a small voice crying for help. He looked all around, but he did not see anyone. All he saw was a tiny speck of dust floating through the air. Horton realized that there was someone on that speck of dust who was calling for help.

Who is Your Neighbor?
OBJECTS: Picture of guide dog
A member of the congregation who has an assist dog and is willing to share experiences would add richness and relevance to this lesson.
Dogs are wonderful pets. Certain types of dogs are also trained to assist people in special ways. Guide dogs are trained to help people who are visually impaired. These dogs enable their owner to be out and about in the world. They let their owner know when and where there is a curb, stairs or obstacle in their path. The guide dog helps keep its owner safe. The guide dog and its owner work together as a team and form a close bond to one another.
