Activities
Choose one of the following OUR SUNDAY VISITOR activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings:
- In this Sunday’s Gospel story of Martha and Mary, Mary shows us how important it is to take the time to acknowledge the presence of God. When do you take time out to pray and listen to God?
- Imagine Jesus is coming to your home. Talk about how you would prepare and what you would plan to do while he is visiting. How would you make Jesus feel welcomed? Would you do things differently when he is visiting?
- Evaluate with your family; are you more like Martha or Mary? Do you do the jobs that are given you or do you feel as if you have to do more than other members of the family? Do the jobs you do include doing the work of the Lord?
- Think about how your family welcomes guests and make a list of what you do to make them feel welcome. Decide what else you may need to do to make them feel that they are being welcomed as you would welcome Christ.

At the Feet of Jesus
OBJECTS: A cell phone
Good morning! Today, we’re going to be talking a lot about distractions and paying attention to what’s really important. (Hold up your cell phone.) Have you ever been trying to talk to a friend who was right in front of you, but that friend was too busy looking at their phone to pay attention to you? (Pause for responses, and be ready with your own story.)

What Do You Hear?
OBJECTS: A bell or whistle. (Lesson may be presented without objects.).
Being able to hear is a wonderful thing. Some things sound musical and pleasant like this bell. What are other things you like to hear? The wind blowing through trees? Waves on an ocean beach? Carousel music? Birds singing? Laughter? Can you think of others?
Some things, like this whistle, sound sharp and shrill and can warn us of danger. A fire alarm warns us when there is smoke in a building. When we hear a car approaching we know we need to be careful where we walk. A train whistle warns us that a train is approaching. Can you think of other warning sounds?
