GOSPEL
Jesus Shines on the Mountain (Luke 9:28-36)
Jesus and His Friends: One day, Jesus took three of his closest friends, Peter, James, and John, to a mountain to pray.
A Special Change: While Jesus was praying, something amazing happened! His face and clothes became bright and shining, almost like the sun.
Surprise Guests: Two special men appeared with Jesus โ Moses and Elijah. They talked about how Jesus would soon go to Jerusalem. These men were important because Moses helped free God’s people from a bad king, and Elijah was a prophet who listened to God.
Peter’s Idea: Peter was so excited that he wanted to make tents for Jesus, Moses, and Elijah so they could all stay together on the mountain.
God’s Message: A bright cloud came and God spoke from the cloud. He said that Jesus was His Son and that the friends should listen to Him.
The Light Fades: When the cloud disappeared, only Jesus was left on the mountain with Peter, James, and John. The shining light was gone, but they would always remember what happened.
Keeping the Secret: Jesus told his friends not to tell anyone about the special moment until after He had risen from the dead.
This story helps us understand that Jesus is God’s Son and that we should listen to Him. It also teaches us to be amazed by the wonderful things God can do, just like Peter, James, and John were when they saw Jesus shining on the mountain.
2nd Sunday of Lent C
Kid Talk

Hey friends! It’s Ana again. This week when you go to Mass you will hear a story from the Bible. It is called the Transfiguration, and it’s about something amazing that happened to Jesus and His friends. My mom told me we can connect it to Eucharistic Adoration, that special time we have with Jesus at church.

Activities
Choose one of the following OUR SUNDAY VISITOR activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings:
Take a family drive to a place that captivates you. Spend time viewing the beauty of the spot. While there, share the Gospel story of the transfiguration.
As a family, brainstorm goals that you want God to help you with. List the goals on a sheet of paper. For each goal, discuss: Why is this goal important to the family? What must the family do in order to accomplish this goal? How can each member of the family participate?
Make a cross for the refrigerator as a reminder that there is no struggle this week that cannot be overcome with the help of Jesus.
Ask each family member to name one thing that he or she would like Godโs help with now. Allow time for each person to complete the sentence, “Ten years from now I would like to be…” Ask each person to name one thing he or she is doing now that will help to make that dream come true.

Sermons 4 Kids
OBJECTS: A Flashlight
Have you ever had a day that was so wonderful that you wanted it to last forever? (Pause for response. Invite kids to share about a special day.) Did you know that Jesus’ disciples had days like that, too? Our Bible lesson today is about one of those days.
One day, Jesus took Peter, James, and John with Him up onto a mountain to pray. As Jesus was praying, something very strange happened. (Hold the flashlight under your chin.) The Bible says that the appearance of His face began to change and that His clothing became as bright as a flash of lightning. Then Moses and Elijah, two men who had gone to heaven a long, long time ago, appeared with Jesus. They were talking with Jesus about how He was going to die.

Well, this story from the Bible is a strange one! In fact, it is almost in code. There are things in this story that stand for other things, and you probably would not be able to guess what they mean. It all happened when Jesus noticed that his disciples were getting nervous and confused. When they first joined up with Jesus, it was exciting. Jesus was very powerfulโhe did a lot of wonderful things. The disciples got to hang around with him; so many people thought they were special, too. That was sort of fun. Best of all, Jesus knew all about God, and when Jesus talked with the disciples and told them stories, they felt very, very close to God. The disciples all believed that they would and could do anything for Jesus.
But then, Jesus took them on a walking trip. They walked all the way from Galilee and now they were almost in Jerusalem. The disciples knew there were very powerful people in Jerusalem; people who were jealous of Jesus and wanted to hurt him. Jesus even said that he would die in Jerusalem! So no wonder they were nervous and confused. And they were sure that they must save Jesus from dying.
So one day, Jesus took Peter and James and John up a mountain. When they got to the top, they had a vision. Does anyone know what a vision is? [Accept all answers].

Temporary Blindness
Sermon Writer
OBJECTS: Sun glasses
Have you ever come into the house after playing out in bright sunlight and everything looks black? It is as if you have lost your sight for a moment. This is called sun blindness. After your eyes have had time to adjust you are able to see objects in the room once again.
During that moment when everything is black, the chairs, pictures, carpets, tables are still there, you just canโt see them. (Words of caution: You should never stare directly at the sun. We can protect our eyes by wearing sun glasses.)
A similar thing may happen with our feelings. Perhaps you have felt sad and, for a time, you couldnโt see the good things in your life. The good things are still there, you just couldnโt see them because of your sadness.
