Activities
Choose one of the following OUR SUNDAY VISITOR activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings:
- In the Gospel reading for Sunday, we learn the prayer that Jesus taught us, the Lord’s Prayer. Sometime during this week, use the Lord’s Prayer as part of your before-meal prayer. Join hands around the table when you pray it.
- Pray the Lord’s Prayer slowly and meditatively. Talk about what each petition means to you. Remind family members that this is the prayer Jesus himself taught us to pray. Express to your children the value of praying together as a family, as a community of believers, and as individuals. Remind family members that praying does not mean always asking God for something. Sometimes it means being silent and listening to what God is speaking to you.
- Make a prayer list for your refrigerator door. Ask everyone to add their requests to the list. Include these intentions in your family prayer.
- Talk about what members of your family pray for. Other than personal matters, does anyone pray for the welfare of your parish, town, state, or nation? Why or why not? Do we really believe our prayers make a difference? Does anyone have examples of how prayer has made a difference in his or her life?

Knock, Knock. Who’s There?
OBJECTS: “Knock, Knock” jokes
I’m sure you’ve heard of a “Knock, Knock” joke. I have some to tell you today. Ready?
Knock, knock. (Who’s there?) Tank. (Tank who?) You’re welcome!…
The Bible tells us about a time Jesus was talking about knock, knock, knocking. (Invite kids to make a knock, knock motion with their fists.)
One day, Jesus was teaching His friends, the disciples, how to pray. He said, “Let’s say you went to a friend’s house late at night…” (Have kids make a knock, knock motion as if knocking on a friend’s door.) “You said to your friend, ‘I need to borrow some bread. I have a friend visiting and I have nothing to feed him.’ “ (Luke 11:5-6)

The Importance of a Name
OBJECTS: An attractive name tag for each child or write each child’s name on a pre-designed decorated poster.
Let’s talk about names today. When you were born your parents were very thoughtful about picking a name that would suit you. They wanted to pick just exactly the right name because names are important. They become a part of who we are.
Doesn’t if make you feel good when people remember your name? Calling someone by their correct name is a way of showing respect. Can you imagine how it would be to play with your friends if you or they didn’t have a name?
Some people have nicknames and this is usually a sign of affection. Perhaps someone named Thomas is called Tom or Rebecca may be changed to Becky.
Then there are hurtful names. When some people get angry they may call others hurtful names like “stupid” or “ugly.” These names can really hurt.
In the Bible Jesus teaches us about the importance of a name. One of his disciples asked Jesus to “teach us to pray (11:1).
Jesus taught the disciples a prayer which we now call The Lord’s Prayer. Some of you may know it by heart. Jesus said,
“When you pray, say, Our Father in heaven,
may your name be kept holy” (11:2).
