GOSPEL
- Setting: Jesus is on a mountain, talking to a big group of people.
- Jesus’ Teachings: Jesus shares special messages called Beatitudes, which show us how to be happy and make others happy too.
- Blessed are the poor: Even if we don’t have many toys or nice things, we can still be happy because we are loved by God.
- Blessed are the hungry: If we feel hungry for God’s love, He will fill our hearts with joy and happiness.
- Blessed are the sad: Sometimes we might feel sad, but Jesus promises that we will feel better and laugh again.
- Blessed are those who are kind to mean people: If someone is mean to us, we should still be kind to them and pray for them. God will be happy that we tried to be like Jesus.
- Woe to the rich: Having many toys or things isn’t what makes us happy. Being close to God and loving others is more important.
- Woe to the well-fed: We should remember to think about God and Jesus, not just about food and playing.
- Woe to those who laugh now: If we make fun of others or are happy when they’re sad, we might feel bad later. It’s important to be kind and caring.
- Being happy with God: When we love God and do what He asks, we’ll feel happy, and God will be happy too.
- Beatitudes for Kids: These special messages from Jesus help us understand how to be good friends, make others happy, and be close to God.

Good morning, everyone! It’s Ana. I just want to let you all know how much I like talking things over with you all. I like going to Mass each Sunday with my mom. She and I read the Gospel together beforehand. So what I want to talk to you about today are the Beatitudes from the Gospel of Luke. You know, Jesus shared some really important lessons that can help us live happier lives and be better friends to others.

Activities
Choose one of the following OUR SUNDAY VISITOR activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings:
Decide on ways to simplify your family’s lifestyle. Ask family members to think about material things they have that they may be attached to. Have them write on a slip of paper the name of one of these material things. Pass around to each family member a trash bag, and have them toss the paper into the trash. Discuss the things family members tossed, and what should replace their attachment to those material possessions as you strive to simplify your lives as a family, and put your trust in God.
Recall stories from your extended family that demonstrate trust and faith in God. Have family members tell about recent times when they stepped out in faith and put their trust in God.
Discuss ways your family can share what has been given to you. Have all members of the family make a contribution from their allowance, savings account, etc., to provide a meal or donation to a family in need.
Find ways for the family to relax and have fun without spending money. Some suggestions include: picnics, walks, hiking, biking, yard games, and table games.

In Search of Happiness
Sermons 4 Kids
OBJECTS: Bubbles for blowing; few dollars in cash; bag of chips; video game controller
GOSPEL: I am sure that everyone has experienced the joy of blowing bubbles. (Blow bubbles at the kids.) Isn’t it funny how something so simple can make so many people happy? It isn’t just for kids either! I have even seen teenagers and adults laughing and having fun blowing bubbles and trying to catch them.
There is just one problem with the happiness that comes from blowing bubbles — it doesn’t last! The minute you reach out and touch one of the bubbles, it will burst. (Blow bubbles and have kids try to touch them.) Many times we chase the bubble, but it is always just out of reach and as soon as it touches the ground, the bubble is gone.

Temporary Blindness
OBJECTS: Sun glasses.
GOSPEL: Have you ever come into the house after playing out in bright sunlight and everything looks black? It is as if you have lost your sight for a moment. This is called sun blindness. After your eyes have had time to adjust you are able to see objects in the room once again.
During that moment when everything is black, the chairs, pictures, carpets, tables are still there, you just can’t see them. (Words of caution: You should never stare directly at the sun. We can protect our eyes by wearing sun glasses.)
A similar thing may happen with our feelings. Perhaps you have felt sad and, for a time, you couldn’t see the good things in your life. The good things are still there, you just couldn’t see them because of your sadness.
In the Bible Jesus spoke to a great crowd of people. One of the things he said…
Crowds and Crowds and Crowds
OBJECTS: f you are not sure how many people your sanctuary holds, ask someone at your church who is sure. That number goes in where the “X” is in the first sentence..
GOSPEL: Have you ever been in a big crowd? I mean a really big crowd. We could get about X number of people into this sanctuary. Jesus sometimes had 4000 or 5000 people in the crowds that followed him! That’s a lot of people! I bet they caused traffic jams just from people walking this way and that way trying to get closer to Jesus.
One day there was a very big crowd of people all waiting for Jesus to come. When Jesus saw all the people, he knew what they wanted, and he was happy to give it to them. They wanted to hear his words about God–– and many of them were sick and wanted to get well.
Some people in the crowd had physical diseases––some had mental illnesses––some may have gotten hurt in accidents. Luke tells us that people were trying to touch him because they felt the power of his healing even by touching him!
Here’s a question for you: Do you think Jesus knew all these people? Huge crowds gathered wherever he went. Once the crowds, trying to get close, almost pushed him into the lake! Once so many crowded into his house that nobody…
