Intercessions Based on Themes from the Readings

For the leaders and ministers of the Church, may they respond to the call of Jesus to proclaim the Good News with zeal and dedication. We pray to the Lord, saying, "Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and proclaim to it the message that I tell you." (Jon 3:2)

For all those who are burdened by the cares and distractions of this world, may they recognize the urgency of seeking the Kingdom of God. We pray to the Lord, saying, "The time is running out. From now on, let those having wives act as not having them" (1 Cor 7:29).

For an increase in faith and repentance among all people, may they hear the call of Jesus to believe in the Gospel and turn their lives towards him. We pray to the Lord, saying, "The Kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the Gospel." (Mk 1:15)

For those who are called to religious vocations, may they have the courage to leave behind what is familiar and follow Jesus wholeheartedly. We pray to the Lord, saying, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." (Mk 1:17)

For peace and justice in the world, may the proclamation of the Gospel inspire individuals and nations to turn away from violence and embrace the ways of peace. We pray to the Lord, saying, "Let the people leave violence behind." (Jon 3:8)

For all those who are suffering and in need, may they encounter the love and mercy of Jesus Christ in their lives. We pray to the Lord, saying, "He healed many who were sick with various diseases" (Mk 1:34).

For an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life, may young men and women respond generously to the call of Jesus to serve his Church. We pray to the Lord, saying, "Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men" (Mk 1:17).

For the unity of all Christians, may they work together to proclaim the Gospel and bear witness to the love of Jesus in the world. We pray to the Lord, saying, "That they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me, and I in you" (Jn 17:21).

For those who feel lost and without hope, may they encounter the message of salvation and find new life in Jesus Christ. We pray to the Lord, saying, "This is the time of fulfillment. The Kingdom of God is at hand" (Mk 1:15).

For the Church, through the power of the Holy Spirit, may she continue to be a beacon of hope and reconciliation in the world. We pray to the Lord, saying, "Proclaim to it the message that I tell you" (Jon 3:2).

For an increase in the practice of prayer and self-denial, may we prioritize our spiritual lives and seek the things of heaven above the things of this world. We pray to the Lord, saying, "Act as not possessing it… For the world in its present form is passing away" (1 Cor 7:29,31).

For all those who have fallen away from the faith, may they hear the call of Jesus and return to the Church with repentant hearts. We pray to the Lord, saying, "Repent, and believe in the Gospel" (Mk 1:15).

For all married couples, may their love be a reflection of the love of Christ for his Church, and may they support and encourage one another in their journey toward holiness. We pray to the Lord, saying, "Let those having wives act as not having them" (1 Cor 7:29).

For an end to the culture of death and a respect for human life at all stages, may society recognize the inherent dignity of every person and protect the gift of life. We pray to the Lord, saying, "From the least to the greatest" (Jon 3:5).

For all parents and guardians, may they diligently teach their children the ways of faith, and may their homes be places of prayer and discipleship. We pray to the Lord, saying, "Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and proclaim to it the message that I tell you" (Jon 3:2).

For the sick, the lonely, and the elderly, may they find comfort and healing in the presence of Jesus and experience the compassion of his followers. We pray to the Lord, saying, "He healed many who were sick with various diseases" (Mk 1:34).

For an increase in the knowledge and understanding of the Scriptures, may the Word of God penetrate our hearts and transform our lives. We pray to the Lord, saying, "Believe in the Gospel" (Mk 1:15).

For ourselves gathered here today, may we respond wholeheartedly to the call of Jesus to follow him and become fishers of men. We pray to the Lord, saying, "Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men" (Mk 1:17).

Heavenly Father, we present to you these prayers and petitions, confident in your love and mercy. May we be open to your grace, receive your word with joy, and courageously respond to the call of discipleship. We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
