In the 2nd Reading, what does St. John tell us is the key to authentically knowing Jesus? Is it head knowledge? Is it an intellectual assent of faith? What is it?
In the Gospel Reading, what event is being referred to in Luke 24:35?
Why are the disciples having so much trouble believing? Why was it necessary for them to see that Jesus was not a ghost? What evidence given by Jesus helps them to believe?
What task does Jesus give the disciples (Luke 24:47-48; Matthew 28:19-20)? With what promise? How must they have felt about this?

FIRST READING
1. In the history of the Church can there have been decisions that were made out of ignorance? The present day, the Church has apologized for some decisions, as for instance, for slavery. What can we learn from this?
SECOND READING
2. John says in his epistle, “is expiation for our sins, and not for our sins only but for those of the whole world.” And Luke’s gospel says “that “repentance, forgiveness of sins, would be preached in Christ’s) name to all the nations.” From these statements would you guess that Christ came to save forty-four thousand people? Most people? All people?
GOSPEL
3. What was the disciples’ task, having recognized the risen Lord, and having seen that he “opened their minds to understand the scripture,”? Is our task now to preach the good news of God’s forgiveness to all nations? How can we do that globally? What about locally or in our neighborhoods?

Is the family meal still and important event in your life? Is the eucharistic meal still important for you and your faith community?
Discuss the importance of the Bible for the faith life of the Christian community. How well do you know the Bible? What is the Lectionary and how does it relate to the Bible? Have you heard that the Lectionary is the Church’s way of reading and proclaiming the word of God? What does that
mean?
At the end of each celebration of the Eucharist, do you hear the Lord sending you to proclaim the good news of the Gospel to the ends of the earth? How are you responding to the command? How is your parish or faith sharing group responding to that command? What does it mean to proclaim the good news to the ends of the earth?

Discussion Questions
Luke 24:35-48
Discussion Questions:
1. How do you think the disciples felt when Jesus appeared to them after his resurrection? How would you react if you were in their shoes?
Sample answer: I think the disciples were probably shocked, amazed, and overjoyed when they saw Jesus after his resurrection. If I were in their shoes, I would probably feel a mix of disbelief and excitement, but ultimately be filled with joy and gratitude.
2. In what ways do you think Jesus’ appearance to the disciples helped strengthen their faith? Can you think of a time when your faith was strengthened by a similar experience?
Sample answer: Jesus’ appearance to the disciples must have greatly strengthened their faith by proving that he had truly risen from the dead, just as he had foretold. A similar experience that strengthened my faith was when I saw prayers answered in a way that only God could have orchestrated.
3. Jesus told the disciples to be witnesses of his resurrection. How can we be witnesses of Jesus in our daily lives, especially as teenagers?
Sample answer: We can be witnesses of Jesus in our daily lives by living out our faith authentically, showing love and kindness to others, and sharing the hope and joy we have in Christ with those around us, especially our peers.
4. How do you think the disciples’ understanding of the Scriptures was deepened after Jesus explained them? How can we deepen our own understanding of the Bible?
Sample answer: The disciples’ understanding of the Scriptures was deepened when Jesus explained them in the context of his life, death, and resurrection. We can deepen our own understanding of the Bible by studying it regularly, seeking guidance from trusted mentors, and asking the Holy Spirit for wisdom and revelation.
5. Discuss the significance of Jesus’ command to go and preach repentance and forgiveness of sins to all nations. How can we actively participate in sharing this message with others, especially with our peers?
5. Sample answer: The command to preach repentance and forgiveness of sins to all nations is a call for us to share the good news of Jesus with everyone we encounter. We can actively participate in this mission by living out our faith boldly, sharing our testimonies, and inviting others to learn about Jesus.
6. Reflect on how Jesus showed his disciples his hands and feet as proof of his resurrection. How does this physical evidence help to strengthen our belief in the resurrection of Jesus?
6. Sample answer: Jesus showing his hands and feet to the disciples as proof of his resurrection provided undeniable physical evidence of his victory over death. This tangible proof strengthens our belief in the resurrection and assures us of the power of Jesus to overcome sin and death.
7. How can we apply the disciples’ response of joy and amazement to our own encounters with Jesus in our lives today? What can we learn from their reaction?
Sample answer: We can apply the disciples’ response of joy and amazement to our own encounters with Jesus by being filled with gratitude, awe, and excitement when we experience his presence and power in our lives. Their reaction teaches us to respond with faith, joy, and praise when we witness God’s work in our midst.
