Activities
Choose one of the following OUR SUNDAY VISITOR activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings:
- As a family, make a list of faithful people who inspire you by the way they live. Then choose one person from the list and work together to find out more about the person’s life.
- Together with your family, discuss how each member gets ready for a special occasion. Share with family members about how you would get ready for a really great party!
- Have a family fire drill. Before the drill, plan the escape routes with the children and emphasize the need to act quickly. Emphasize that once out, they should never go back in the house without your permission. After the drill, talk about how important it is to be prepared in case of an emergency. Relate being prepared for a fire to being prepared to meet God at any moment.

Treasures in Heaven
OBJECTS: A piggy bank; play money; pen; coins
(Show the piggy bank.) Do you have a piggy bank at home? How often do you put money in it? (Pause for responses.)
Some people, at the end of each day, put all of the change from their pockets into a piggy bank. It may not be a lot of money, but when you add to it every day, it is amazing how quickly it builds up.
Whether we use a piggy bank or a savings account at the bank, it is a good idea to have a plan to save money for unexpected emergencies or when we want to do something special. But we have to be careful that saving money doesn’t become the most important thing in our life.
Why do you think I say that?
In the Bible, Jesus warned His friends and the people who followed Him about making money the most important thing to them. (Fan out a stack of play money.)

Where is the Treasure?
OBJECTS: Pictures of dragons and pirate ships
Do you ever read stories about dragons, those make-believe creatures that live in caves? The story is usually about how dragons guard their treasure of gold and jewels, breathing smoke and fire out of their mouths and noses if anyone tries to take their treasure.
Perhaps you have read stories about pirates who sailed the seas long ago and captured treasure such as gold and silver from other ships. They hid their treasure chests on islands. Then they drew maps to where the treasure was hidden so they could find it when they returned.
Maybe you have gone on a treasure hunt? It’s a fun party game. Someone hides objects around the house or yard and then writes directions on pieces of paper. The treasure hunters must figure out, from the written clues, where the treasure is hidden. (If time and situation permits, allow the children to do this on a limited basis.)
A lot of time and effort can go into finding treasure and if we think about it a bit more we will discover that there are many kinds of treasure. The dictionary says a treasure is “any thing or person greatly valued or highly prized.”
And, Jesus tells us that “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (12:34).
