Poetry
Abraham and Isaac

First three stanzas of a 75 stanza poem
by St. Ephraim the Syrian
God banished
the righteous Abraham
from his kinsfolk
and from all his own.
And he was in a foreign land
persevering under hardships
waiting for the hope
of the promise.
Much testing was brought
upon the patriarch,
through which his steadfastness
to God was shown.
