FR. DON: Welcome. I am Father Don.
Each week Tonya and I will discuss three video reflections on the Sunday Gospel which are posted on the top of the home page at The Word This Week. You can find it online at Sunday Mass Readings dot org.
TONYA: This Sunday’s Gospel is about the miracle of the loaves and fishes, and Bishop Golka, Dr. Alice Prince, and Frank Pavone have shared their unique perspectives on it.

FR. DON: Bishop Golka talks about spiritual nourishment and transformation through the Eucharist. He compares mountains to places where people connect deeply with God and says attending Mass with that intention makes it a powerful spiritual experience.
TONYA: Yeah, I like how he connects Mass to the Gospel, talking about us being like students ready to learn. It makes me think about how we should approach worship.
FR. DON: I like how he makes reference to the third Eucharistic prayer. How God gives life to all things and makee them holy and he never ceases to gather a people to himself so that the from the rising of the sun to its setting a pure sacrifice may be offered to his name. Listen to what he says, “So think of this when you come to mass Jesus has called you to come there. It’s not your decision. He called you and you responded to that desire.”
TONYA: And when he mentions how our culture is all about material things, but we really crave spiritual things, it really hits home. It’s like when we bring our little offerings to God, He turns them into something big, like the miracle of the loaves and fishes.

FR. DON: Dr. Alice Prince discusses ‘overflowing grace.’ She points out how God doesn’t just meet our needs but goes above and beyond, filling us with joy, love, and grace. She encourages us to see God’s grace in our lives, both in prayer and everyday moments.
TONYA: I appreciate how she reminds us that when God answers our prayers, it changes us. Our problems become clearer, and we feel lighter. It’s comforting to remember God knows us deeply.
FR. DON: Frank Pavone talks about the sanctity of life and caring for others. He connects the readings to God’s power over life and our responsibility to support and protect others. He emphasizes that even the boy in the story plays a role in the miracle, showing how we’re all connected and have a duty to care for one another.
TONYA: Yeah, and it makes me think about the importance of recognizing that everyone, no matter how small, has value and a part to play.
FR. DON: So I guess we can now wrap up this segment. Bishop Golka invites us to connect with God, Dr. Prince helps us see God’s overflowing grace, and Frank Pavone reminds us of the sanctity of life and our responsibility to care for others. Each reflection gives us different insights and challenges us to grow in faith.
TONYA: Keep listening if you like. We have two more segments. One on the Gospel, which we titled “Beyond Wicker Baskets,” and on the Second Reading, “United in Faith.”
