“Do we ever stop to talk and listen to God during the day? Do we ever review the day to see how well we witnessed to Christ?”

The Solution to the Problems of the World is Jesus Christ

Fr. Mullins compares the experience of being awakened in the night by a fire alarm to the importance of being startled and awakened by the words of Christ. He highlights that just as a fire alarm alerts us to potential danger and prompts us to take action, the words of Christ should startle us out of our complacency and prompt us to follow him. He emphasizes that Jesus came to give us a new message and to free us from the demons that plague us, such as addiction or anything that pulls us away from our faith. He encourages us to listen to the Gospel every Sunday, looking for one phrase or line that speaks to us and serves as a fire alarm, prompting us to be alert to Christ’s message and willing to follow him.

Freedom from Anxiety

In his 2015 homily, Fr. Hahn discusses the flu season and the feeling of fatigue and weakness that comes with being sick. He then reflects on the Gospel of Mark, specifically the healing of Simon’s mother-in-law. Fr. Hahn emphasizes the three steps Jesus takes in the healing process: approaching, grasping her hand, and helping her up. He relates these steps to God’s love and care for us in all aspects of our lives. Fr. Hahn encourages us to open ourselves to God’s healing power and reminds us that God’s desire for healing extends to our mind, body, and spirit. He concludes by highlighting the connection between prayer, spirituality, and physical health.

Jesus is our Divine healer

Jesus is our Divine Healer. In the Gospel presented today he heals Simon’s mother-in-law of a fever. He heals people with all sorts of illnesses including possession which refers both to diabolic possession and psychological, or psychiatric illnesses. Jesus heals so many people that he has to find a solitary place in the desert for a few moments of union with his Father. But even then, Simon Peter and the others find him and make him go back to work.
