How to Be Kind and Forgiving: A Woman is Brought to Jesus

  • Jesus teaches at the temple: Jesus was teaching people in a special place called the temple. It’s like a big church where people go to learn about God and pray.
  • A woman is brought to Jesus: Some people brought a lady to Jesus who had done something wrong. They wanted to see how Jesus would help her.
  • The people wanted to trick Jesus: These people were trying to play a game with Jesus. They thought they could make Him say something wrong, but Jesus is very wise and kind.
  • Jesus is gentle and caring: Instead of being mad at the lady, Jesus was very understanding and kind. He wanted her to learn from her mistake and become a better person.
  • Jesus shows us how to forgive: Jesus forgave the lady and told her not to do the bad thing again. This teaches us that we should be forgiving and kind to others, even when they make mistakes.
  • Jesus is a great teacher: Everyone who heard Jesus that day learned a lot from Him. They saw how He was wise, gentle, and kind, and wanted to be more like Him. We can learn from Jesus too and try our best to be good and kind to others.

This story from John 8:1-11 teaches us to be kind, forgiving, and always try to learn from our mistakes. Jesus is our loving teacher who shows us how to be better people and love one another.

Ana

Hi friends! My name is Ana, and today I want to tell you about a story from the Bible. It’s from a book called John, and it talks about a time when Jesus taught people about being kind and forgiving.

One day, Jesus was teaching people at a special place called the temple. The temple was like a big church where people went to learn about God and pray. Lots of people came to listen to Jesus because He was very wise and kind.

While Jesus was teaching, some people brought a lady to Him. She had done something wrong, and they wanted to see what Jesus would do. These people were trying to play a trick on Jesus, but Jesus is very smart and kind, so He knew just what to do.

Instead of getting mad at the lady, Jesus was very gentle and caring. He wanted her to learn from her mistake and become a better person. Jesus wanted to show everyone that being kind and forgiving is very important.

Jesus told the people that if they had never done anything wrong, they could throw a stone at the lady. But guess what? No one threw a stone! This is because we all make mistakes sometimes, and it's important to remember that.

After all the people went away, Jesus talked to the lady. He told her that He didn't think she was bad, and He forgave her for the wrong thing she had done. Jesus wanted her to learn from her mistake and make better choices in the future.

This story teaches us how to be kind, understanding, and forgiving, just like Jesus. Sometimes our friends might do something wrong or make a mistake. Maybe they say something not very nice, or they don't share their toys, or they forget to do their chores. We should remember that everybody makes mistakes, and it's important to help our friends learn from them.

For example, if your friend accidentally breaks your favorite toy, instead of getting angry and yelling at them, you could try saying something like, "I'm sad that my toy is broken, but I know you didn't mean to break it. Let's try to be more careful next time we play together." By talking about the mistake and how to avoid it in the future, you're helping your friend learn and grow.

Another example could be if your friend says something that hurts your feelings. Instead of getting upset and ignoring them, you could tell them, "What you said made me feel sad. I know you're my friend and didn't mean to hurt me, but let's try to use kind words when we talk to each other." This way, you're being understanding and forgiving, just like Jesus was in the story.

Remember, nobody is perfect, and we all make mistakes sometimes. But just like Jesus helped the lady learn from her mistake, we can help our friends learn from theirs. By being kind, understanding, and forgiving, we can grow together and become better friends.

So, let's try to be kind and forgiving every day, just like Jesus taught us. We can help our friends learn from their mistakes and grow together. And remember, even if we make a mistake, we can always learn from it and do better next time.

Sticks and stones…?

We should respond to annoyance with kindness and love, recognizing the inherent value in everyone and avoiding the harm of hurtful words or actions.

  • 00:00 Hurting others with words or actions, like throwing stones, is wrong and we must be cautious about our reactions to those who annoy us.
  • 00:55 Everyone has faced hurtful words, but it’s important to remember that we are more than our mistakes.
  • 01:34 Remember that everyone carries a piece of God within them, so always choose kindness and love.

Pointing Fingers
Throwing Stones

Sermons 4 Kids

OBJECTS: Your own hand and enough stones to give one to each child.

One day Jesus got up early and went to the temple. As often happened, a group of people gathered around Jesus and he sat down and began to teach them. As he was teaching, some teachers of the law brought a woman who had been living a sinful life and made her stand before Jesus. “Teacher,” they said, “this woman was caught in a terrible act of sin. The law of Moses says that she should be punished by stoning. What do you say?” The Bible tells us that they were trying to trap Jesus into saying something against their laws so that they could bring charges against him.

Jesus bent down and began writing with his finger in the dirt. The men kept questioning Jesus trying to get him to say something. Finally, Jesus stood and said to them, “Whoever is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her,” then he bent down and continued writing in the dirt. The men who had accused the woman looked at one another and walked away.

Jesus stood and spoke to the woman. “Where are your accusers? Did no one condemn you?” he asked.

A High Calling

Sermon Writer

OBJECTS: Knitted items, or ask a knitter to demonstrate while you present the lesson that part of the lesson.

Have you ever tried to learn something new and found it difficult? How about when you were quite young and were learning to tie your shoes? That is a difficult task for tiny hands. I can imagine that you had to try over and over again to tie a strong bow that wouldn’t slip.

Can you share some of your experiences when you tried to learn to do something new? Did you become discouraged?

As an adult I wanted to learn how to knit. I had to learn how to put stitches on the needles, how to read directions, and how to make those directions become a knitted hat or scarf or sweater. Sometimes I would make a mistake and end up with a hole in my knitting where none should be.

In the Bible the apostle, Paul talks about learning how to become a good Christian. He found it difficult and said he was not “perfect,” but he “pressed on” (3:12).

He gives advice and says to “forget… the things which are behind, and stretch… forward to the things which are before.” (3:13).

Return of the Lost

Sermon Writer

OBJECTS: A well-loved (worn) doll, teddy bear, or book. (Not essential to lesson.)

Jesus often told stories when he wanted to teach a lesson. This is a difficult story to understand, but let’s try. There was a man who had two sons. The younger son asked his father to give him the property that would belong to him later (his inheritance) so the father divided his property between the two sons.

The youngest son gathered everything that he had been given, traveled to a distant land where he was careless and spent all that he had on foolish things. Then hard times came and this son did not have enough money left to buy food.

He went back home to his father and apologized for being careless and self-centered. His father was so glad to see him that he brought out a robe and sandals to dress him well and also prepared a feast to celebrate his return.

This made the other son angry because he had stayed home all this time, obeyed and worked hard for his father. This doesn’t seem fair does it?
